Fleming, Colorado
Abandonment and resurrection
This community was first settled in the 1880s. It was resurrected in 1904 when the railroad arrived and brought with it a store and a bank. In 1938 Fleming had over 300 residents, two lumber yards, a telephone exchange, three elevators, blacksmith, hardware, drugstore, two mercantile, a cash store, meat market, hotel, restaurant, two garages, two theaters, newspaper, school, depot, a City Light and Water building and a post office. Today, a pleasant park, museum and gift shop are located at the west edge of town and it is here that you can get more information about Fleming’s history and perhaps buy a hand-made craft or two. It is a thriving little community with its own school district plus businesses and eating establishments open year round.
