STERLING — The Sterling City Council held a special meeting on Thursday in order to approve the application for a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant award and to authorize the Mayor to execute the Assurance agreement.
The grant award is through Downtown Colorado, Inc., with funds through the USDA Rural Development`s Rural Community Development Initiative (RCDI). It will be used to benefit a technical assistance training visit by DCI and a team of planning, design, downtown management, economic development and marketing professionals to assist the City in community and economic development planning.
"We have been told we have been awarded the grant," said Rich O`Connell, executive director of the Logan County Economic Development Corporation. (LCEDC). "However the funds are for the year beginning 2012."
O`Connell also noted that the grant will be of assistance in building on some of the recommendations and plans made recently by the DOLA/CSU student project on such things as highway bypass design, downtown streetscape/plaza/street reconfigurations, and ideas for faade upgrade and infill redevelopment for downtown Sterling.
